Moonrise Guest Cottage, sleeps 2, a delightful little studio cottage with an oceanfront setting and a peek-a-boo ocean view. Tucked away for privacy, you approach from the ocean, along a winding path lined with palms, croton and lilies. The entrance courtyard is partially shaded for dining al fresco or sunning. Inside you'll find a galley area for food preparation, bath with shower, tile floors, lots of screened windows, ceiling fans and island-style furnishings.

Moonrise was recently remodeled with new appliances, linens and colors: fresh white and soothing ocean blues. We scoured the island for just the right blend of wicker, bamboo and tropical fabrics to give it the charm and comfort we had in mind. The piece de resistance is a magnificent queen-size bamboo canopy bed, complete with mosquito netting for ambience (rarely do we get mosquitoes). The raised ceiling and ceiling fans add to the open, tropical feeling.

Even though the kitchen is compact, it is well-equipped with refrigerator/freezer, stainless sink with instant-on hot water faucet and all the basics: microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker and a little starter kit of things like soap, baggies, salt & pepper and paper products. The most popular cooking equipment is the large stainless-steel gas grill with a propane burner in the back yard. Perfect for fresh island fish, steaks, burgers, marinated tofu steaks or your favorite farmer’s market vegetables.

The bathroom has a tile countertop, shower, large window for fresh air and natural light, and a beachcombing-inspired mirror. Hairdryer and beach towels are provided. The mornings here are heavenly, so quiet you can hear the songs of exotic birds and wind in the palm fronds, with sunlight dappled through the leaves.
Tucked away in a quiet waterfront setting, you'll be a short stroll on the seaside walking path to quaint Kapa'a Town with its fun restaurants, food carts and boutique shopping (you'll find our recommendations on the "Kauai" page). Just in front, less than 60 steps from the front door, is the soft sand and warm water of "Baby Beach."
